COASTAL AND BUSHLAND TREE WORK

Salt, wind and bushfire shape Northern Beaches tree work

The Northern Beaches runs from suburban Balgowlah out to the bushland plateau around Belrose and Beacon Hill, then down to the water at Bayview and the beaches at Bilgola. Twisted orange angophoras, scribbly gums, banksias and blackbutt grow straight out of the sandstone, and a lot of homes back onto national park. It is a stunning place to live and a genuinely tricky place to keep trees safe.

Our tree crew works to the conditions the peninsula throws at us: salt-laden wind on the coast, exposed ridgelines, and steep blocks that fall away towards Pittwater. Where a property sits in the bushfire interface, we thin canopies and clear dead material to help open up defendable space, and after a big blow we are on call for storm-damaged trees. We climb and rig where machinery cannot get in, and turn what we cut into mulch wherever it makes sense.

Coastal, bushfire and bushland tree work across the peninsula

Up on the plateau at Belrose, Beacon Hill and Bilgola Plateau, the big issue is bushfire. Homes that sit against the bush carry more risk when canopies are dense and dead wood is left in the trees, so selective thinning, deadwooding and clearing back from the roofline all help. We work within the tree rules that apply near bushland, so you keep the protection without stripping the block bare.

Closer to the water at Bayview and Bilgola Beach, salt and wind do the damage. Constant sea air burns foliage and weakens branch unions, and exposed trees lose limbs in a strong north-easterly or southerly, so regular pruning keeps them balanced and less likely to fail. On the steep Pittwater blocks we rig limbs down by rope, and clear storm damage day or night when a tree comes down across a driveway or roof.

  • Homes backing onto bushland at Belrose and Beacon Hill benefit from canopy thinning and deadwooding to help with bushfire safety.
  • Salt and wind near Bilgola Beach and Bayview leave coastal trees needing regular pruning to stay balanced.
  • Steep blocks down to Pittwater usually call for climbing and roped lowering rather than machinery.
  • Trees down after a coastal storm are cleared by our 24/7 emergency tree removal crew.

"Haris is no fuss. Met on a Friday and he provided advice and a prompt quote. Next day he arrived with his team and performed the job safely, skillfully, efficiently and cleaned up entirely before leaving. We can recommend him."
Paul Lowden Verified Google review
"The boys did a great job in a very awkward location in the backyard on a 10 meter gum tree. Their price was competitive and they even took the mulch to our community garden and unloaded in a difficult spot without complaint."

Common questions

Common questions about coastal and bushfire tree care

Can you help reduce bushfire risk around a house near the bush?
Yes. On the bushland edges around Belrose, Beacon Hill and Duffys Forest we thin dense canopies, take out dead wood and clear branches back from the roof and gutters to help open up defendable space. We keep the healthy structure of the trees while lowering the fuel load close to the house.
My trees near the beach look burnt and windblown. What can be done?
Salt spray and constant wind at places like Bilgola Beach and Bayview scorch foliage and stress exposed trees. Regular pruning to reduce and rebalance the canopy helps them cope with the wind and cuts the chance of a limb tearing out in a storm.
Do you work on steep blocks running down to Pittwater?
We do. Many properties on that side of the peninsula drop steeply from the street towards the water, so we climb and lower branches by rope rather than bringing in heavy machinery. We plan access carefully so the surrounding bush and gardens are left intact.
Do you offer emergency tree removal after storms?
Yes, around the clock. Big coastal blows regularly bring limbs and whole trees down across the Northern Beaches, so our emergency team can make a dangerous tree safe and clear it any time of day or night.
